Once you are certain that you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, there is a common step all Singaporeans will take. GET A FLAT.

This is like queuing for a dungeon as a DPS.

First of all, I think it is important to set a budget of the price of flat you are getting.
Is your job stable?
Do you have thoughts of changing job in the near future?

Use the CPF Our First Home Calculator to gauge your ability on financing a flat.
You will need information from your fiancee/fiance.

We applied for NOVEMBER 2014 SALES OF BALANCE FLATS.
Results were emailed to us on 6th February.
It's like a dream come true for any Singaporean couples to receive a queue number < 100 for flat selection~It was a torturous wait though. A whole 4 months wait.

But wait. No.55 out of 50 units available.
1st person in queue will start selection from mid April onwards.

With priority, we are still number 55.
It's our first time applying so we were both devastated then.
(I was so angry I sent a complain letter to HDB!)
However, our parents and friends told us that this is apparently, a VERY GOOD queue number.

Here's why it's not THAT bad.
Applicants in front of you WILL drop out.

But hey look. Another wait before selection of flat!
Plenty of time to start filtering which units we won't want!
As we are both very meticulous in planning, we had our own formula of excel to aid us.

15th May 2015
When it was our turn, there was still quite a handful of units left for selection.
I had OT till 12am the previous night and thank god, I took a PM leave in advance.
Zen was better, he had a full day off and he only had to spend a halfday leave to get that benefit.

We reached HDB rather early so we had a horrible duck rice @ a place near HUB hub. It was so horrible, I didn't finish it. Sour rice and meat hard as rock.

Then with our nervous and excited selves, we returned to HDB Hub and waited restlessly for our turn. If there are people in front of you on that day of selection, you can continuously check HDB site to see if the previous applicants had chosen a flat and if they did, which units are left.
Then of course, if you have alot of time, you can stand in front of the wall TV to wait for more information for the area of your selection. The TV information is rather slow because it will be showing not just Sales of Balance flat but also every area for BTO units too.

Zen papa was there with us and he was the most restless. It was a pretty funny sight. A sweet dad indeed! He helped us prepare alot of materials we needed for the selection and brought us to one of the site we are interested in.

At around 4pm, it was finally our turn!
We were greeted warmly by a very professional looking staff. Seeing that Zenpapa came for the session too, she went off and got another chair for him! Service 100/100!

Her gently, coaxing voice guided us through the application. We barely need to talk because everything which needs to be there, are prepared.
Any questions asked will just be confirmation.
Then...
She asked for the missing pay slips! Messy Zen doesn't keep his things in place.
Good thing we are allowed to send in the missing slips before a deadline!
With that, we are done with our flat selection~

Below are important things you might need to take note of when applying for flat.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BE BRINGING ALONG FOR YOUR FLAT SELECTION DAY?
1) CPF contribution history. To avoid trouble, we printed out the ENTIRE history of contribution
2) 6 mths worth of Salary Slips
(Zen misplaced his and it was unacceptable! The HDB staff gave us an envelope for us to mail to them the missing salary slips. You can obtain those from your company HR)
3) ICs (and your parents' if you are applying near them)
4) Nets/ your bank card for $2000 payment if you have decided on a unit that day
5) Application form (most important!...do fill in and sign beforehand!)

Our application procedure for Sales of Balance Flat took 7months before we get to select a unit.
